Gratitude changes EVERYTHING

July 2023 Mentor Message

We have focused on gratitude in previous newsletters and feel to mention again this simple, powerful tool to pass along to your mentees. It doesn’t cost anything and requires no more effort than a choice to acknowledge and see the good. Developing the skill of gratitude brings emotions of hope and eases the heaviness of burdens.

Gratitude is a powerful emotion that has a positive impact on our mental and physical health. Expressing gratitude involves acknowledging the good things in our lives, recognizing the people who have helped us, and feeling a sense of appreciation for all that we have. When we focus on the positive aspects of our lives, we can experience a shift in our mindset, leading to greater happiness and a sense of fulfillment.

People who regularly practice gratitude experience lower levels of depression, anxiety, and stress. They also have higher levels of self-esteem, greater satisfaction, and a stronger sense of social support.

Gratitude can also have a positive impact on our physical health. People who express gratitude regularly experience lower levels of inflammation, improved heart health, and better sleep quality.

One of the most powerful aspects of gratitude is its ability to foster positive relationships. When we express gratitude towards others, we strengthen our connections and build a sense of community. Gratitude can also help us forgive and let go of negative emotions.

Some people find it helpful to keep a gratitude journal, where they write down things they are thankful for each day. Others choose to express gratitude through acts of kindness or by simply saying thank you more often. Whatever method we choose, the key is to make gratitude a regular practice in our lives.

Encourage your mentees to experience the benefits that come from a heart and mind trying to see all that is right and good. It won’t fix everything, but it will give them more mental and physical capacity to fix some things.
