Mentee

Maggie George

Any children in the home?

{Do they have any children?:2:}

How is your family mentee doing?

We’re bonding really well! I think my own experiences are helping her emotionally break free from her 16 year abusive and isolating marriage. My heart leaps seeing Maggie’s face as she sees important insights while navigating through her many difficult hurdles. I feel blessed to know Maggie.

What are their needs?

Maggie needs a new set of false teeth. She and her son are managing their money very carefully. Teeth could make the difference as she goes into the job market.

What skills do they need to develop?

Her son, Micheal I think is his name, is awkward making friends in real life. His world is online. Maggie hasn’t supported herself and needs testing and learning what her aptitudes and abilities are that could transition into a work environment.

What changes are they trying to make?

Housing is high on the list, but breaking away from her abusive husband is a process she must navigate. A few sessions with a good therapist might help her sever that unhealthy bond.

What concerns do you have?

Thank you for the opportunity to know Maggie!
Thank you for the resource lists.

What community resources/classes would be most beneficial to them?

Help them experience what healthy family support looks like, and how they can be that for each other.

What contacts would help in their particular situation?

How can we be a support to you?

I shared my reasoning and rationale that helped me detach myself from my abusive partner years ago. She says hearing me say I did not need to justify to him why I needed to leave him, made a huge change in how she mentally and emotionally tells her story in her own mind.
